Construction and Unwelcome Visitors

Since last fall a few units have had mice, which is unusual for Canal Place. The source of the problem is the construction in the adjacent building which is displacing the mice and they are taking up residence in Canal Place.

Here’s what the management suggests:   “To prevent mice entering your unit we recommend that you seal all wall openings, particularly those under your kitchen and bathroom sinks and in the laundry room, where the pipes come thru the wall. An easy way to do that is with a spray can of “Great Stuff”. It sprays on like whipped cream and quickly dries hard like Styrofoam. This will prevent any mice in the walls from getting into your unit. We also suggest that you place traps in those same locations.  Cans of “Great Stuff” are available in hardware stores, Home Depot, Lowes and similar stores.”

As the weather warms up, one hopes that any mice will relocate outside, and that the construction to the rear of the building will be much further along and properly battened up before next fall.

  1. I would like to ask that if people put down traps that they do not use poison. I have a cat and if a mouse that has been poisoned, my cat might decide to eat it herself.

    Thanks.

  2. This is turning out to be a huge problem. Everyone I have talked to on the 6th has them. I am having Bain Pest Control come out next week (we used them in the past but this is the first time in 10 years we have had this problem here). Is there anything Management can do as far as the building is concerned in addition to us dealing with it in our individual units??

  3. My husband took a picture of the 1st floor trash room this morning (so disgusting), I sent it off to Cathy. Could be another reason why we have mice. I suggested that management look at surveillance and find out who did it. Another suggestion, a notice should go to every single unit .

  4. In our bedroom, we saw a mouse on the green bars – the holdover mill machinery supports. It ran up the bar, and we haven’t seen it since.

    We are in unit 112.
