More Freebies! (Cabinets)

From another resident:

This is Pete Pedulla, owner/resident of Unit #220.
My partner, Tara and I, just bought #504 and are renovating. We have some original cabinets we will give away if anyone wants them. They are in good condition. They have already been removed and are ready to go:
2 small upper cabinets (over the sink and over the fridge.)
1 corner cabinet
1 upper double cabinet from short side of “L” (end wall furthest from fridge)

Kitty Supplies Available

From a resident:

I’ve got a free CleverCat top-entry litterbox and a pretty full big bag of Royal Canin Urinary S/O feline formula (helps reduce urinary tract infections in kitties).

No worries–the cats are fine! They just prefer side entry boxes and their diet switched.

Parking Rate Increase—Important meeting 10/3!

From Georgi: We are going to need as many people as possible to attend the October 3rd City Finance Subcommittee meeting being held at 5:30 at the City Council’s Chamber.

They will be discussing a change to city garage monthly fees which will GREATLY affect our monthly condo fees. (See information below)

Please make every effort to attend this meeting.

Further info (from CP3, lightly edited by me for CP1)

Parking director Nick Navin was the guest speaker at LDNA meeting last week to discuss the proposed parking rate increases the city is planning to implement January 2018. This was referred to finance sub-committee which is scheduled for Tuesday, October 3rd, 5:30 at City Council Chamber.

The entire proposal can be found here; page 6 and 7 have the rates and discounts listed. The fee for our current resident pass (24/7 access) is $48.00 per month.  The new 24/7 access pass will be $100 (residents will get 25% discount the 1st year bringing it to $75.00 per month) for 2018 and 10–15% increase every year for the next 4 years.

After that it’s recommended that the price increase annually based on the consumer price index or “based on the needs of the department at that time.”

These changes will triple the cost of the parking fees that Canal Place pays out on behalf of the residents over the next four years—in addition to the increase those of us paying for additional spaces will see.

Kinetic Sculpture Race & Board Meeting

Part of Market Street is closed tomorrow for another festival but this week it’s only from 8am–4pm Saturday and only involves the block immediately in front of our complex. The event is the Lowell Kinetic Sculpture Race which should be a lot of fun.

Also: A reminder that there’s a board meeting next Wednesday, the 27th, in the lobby office starting at 7:00pm. Residents welcome.

And finally—if you’re interested in responses to bulletin board posts be sure to check the comments after a day or two has gone by. The system only sends out notifications for new posts, not for comments.

Any AC problems?

I got a question from a resident about the AC. Ours seems to be fine but I’ll pass her question along. Feel free to post in the comments one way or the other or shoot me an e-mail.

Is anyone else experiencing AC problems?  I woke to them this morning and don’t want to place a service call if it is the building.

Thank you.

Anyone Have Exposed Brick in Their Unit?

A request from Georgi:

Hi Everyone

I’m working with someone who is purchasing in the building and they are very interested in exposing the brick that is hidden behind  our drywalled walls.

If you have exposed any of the brick in your unit, would you be willing to share your experience and results with this new owner?

Please feel free to contact me through my business email at GMay@ERAKey.com.

Thanks for your help!

Arts Festival, Harvest Festival, & Market St. Closure (starting today at 4:00)

Just a reminder, Market Street will be closed this weekend for the Creaticity Arts Festival starting late today. Access to the Leo Roy garage and our surface lot will be through a temporarily-two-way Palmer Street (or, I assume, through the Visitor’s Lot entrance on Dutton).  More info about street closures can be found here.

There’s also a Harvest Festival on the North Common Saturday from 11 to 3. There will be a shuttle bus to the North Common running from the corner of Market and Shattuck streets during those hours (I’m guessing it’s free but I haven’t found any definite info).

Should be a fun weekend. I look forward to seeing some of you there!

Upcoming Festivals on Market Street

There are two festivals coming up that will mean closing Market Street for some or all of the weekend: Creaticity Art Festival on the 16th and 17th and the Kinetic Sculpture Race on the 23rd.  They should both be great fun but be aware that traffic patterns in and out of the lot and the garage will be rearranged for those days and people need to allow extra time getting places.

During the Creaticity Festival I’ll be running a walking tour of nineteenth century dance sites both days at 2:00 followed by a brief dance demo. And, in the process of doing more research for the tour, I ended up with so much info about one section of the Bon Marché building that I put up a couple of web pages about it—for anyone interested, it can be found here.
