Washer/Dryer Recommendations

I have a request for recommendations from a resident. Please answer in the comments or send me an e-mail and I’ll pass the info along.

I wanted to ask others who have replaced their washer/dryer which model they have purchased. I’ve recently been on the hunt for a new washer/dryer but am struggling to find one that will fit in through the laundry room doorway and onto the drain pan. I’m trying to avoid purchasing a set with a very small drum so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance and have a great day!”

  1. Had good luck with the LG stackables that rotate on and off sale at Lowe’s around the corner. I did a ton of research on reliability across the different manufacturers and Consumer Reports rated LG as some of their top-rated brands, even if they lack the fancy bells and whistles of less reliable, but more affordable Samsung sets.

When you dig into it, you or features like steam washing is a bit of a fad, adds greater complexities that can break down later, and ultimately not needed for most users.

shiuld go without saying , but ensure you have delivery or help getting the dryer stacked atop your washer. Not a job for anyone without experience, moving equipment, or a very strong and generous friend.

  2. We love our Speed Queen stack which we purchased from Dracut Appliance. Cleans and dries excellent. Built like a battleship with all steel components (no plastic.) Full 5-year warranty and claimed to have with a 20+ year lifespan. Consumer Reports loves Speed Queen who primarily manufacture for laundromats. Also its American-made, if you care. Downsides: High purchase price, Not HE (High Efficiency.) is that it’s pricey and not high-efficiency.

  3. We brought our LG washer and bought a matching dryer from Dracut Appliance. Have been happy with it.

  4. My wife and I purchased (from Dracut Appliance) a Frigidaire / Electrolux Gallery Series, Commercial Heavy Duty, Super Capacity, Sound Silencer, 3/4 Horse power motor. We have had it for quite a while and I would Highly recommend the washer/dryer and also the dealer. They delivered and installed the unit and were extremely professional.

  5. We have a stacked LG washer and dryer that I believe we bought from Lowes (it was several years ago): https://www.lg.com/us/support/product/lg-WM2140CW.ABWEEUS. The washer is high efficiency, and has the same tendency to get a foul water smell that’s common among HE washers, but if you don’t let the laundry sit long and follow the manufacturer’s instructions about cleaning it every few months it’s fine. We switched to using laundry sheets instead of liquid detergent awhile ago and I swear by them—small, light, and no plastic bottles to deal with. After much experimentation, this is my preferred brand: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=breezeo+laundry+strips&crid=2G6IO56BPDZI6&sprefix=Breezeo%2Caps%2C82&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_1_7

Our washer and dryer have gotten fairly heavy use and still work great. They hold fairly large loads. The only slightly concerning thing we had happen was that the guy who came to install it said they were intended for concrete basement floors, not second level laundry rooms, but there’s nothing in the manual about that and they haven’t fallen through the floor yet! 😉

  6. We had to replace our drain pan to accommodate a full-sized washer. We had Frank Potvin arrange to have it fabricated, and install a new water heater at the same time the pan was replaced. I ended up going through Best Buy for the new washer and dryer – whoever they contract with did a fine job with the install.

I also went with stacked LG washer and dryer, and so far we are very happy with their performance. You will definitely need a key to get them in the back door by the freight elevator, but they fit through our laundry room door without issue.
