Our dryer, which might have been original to the unit, has finally died. We think it’s time to get a new washer and dryer, but knowing that some appliances in the building have to be custom ordered, is there a brand/type of stacked washer dryer that anyone recommends? We’d need one that would fit in the upstairs laundry room. Open to thoughts and suggestions!

Just upgraded my machine to an LG washtower. A little pricy but for a stacked all in one unit it’s great so far.
If you already have a tray under your washer/dryer, just be sure that the measurements of your new one will fit in the tray; otherwise you will probably have to have our tray re-done.
Also, don’t forget to add in the manufacturer’s recommendations for the amount of clearance you need behind the machine. Our tray was big enough for a standard washer, but didn’t have enough distance from the wall for all the hoses.
(We replaced the tray, replaced our aging water heater at the same time, and got a full-sized stacking LG washer/dryer. It’s been great.)
We bought a Speed Queen stack a few years ago. We love it. It’s all steel inside, no plastic bearings, etc. SQ mostly makes commercial units for laundromats, etc. They have a few residential models. It wasn’t cheap, but it’s supposed to last a long time. One drawback is that it’s not high efficiency. We purchased at Dracut Appliance, who we also like very much.
I had the same thing happen to me a couple of months after I bought my unit. I went with a stackable whirlpool set. They’re regular sized and I was super nervous it wouldn’t fit, but it was fine.
