I have to agree with Brian, and another resident just sent me an e-mail saying the same thing:
“Call A-1 Maintenance Steve is the best. 978-957-5526. I have used him for years.”
The previous owner had A-1 rebuild the compressor. I’ve heard the new ones are questionable.
Another vote for A-1. I thought our downstairs unit was broken but he tinkered with it and added freon and it is as good as new.

I replaced two units in 2012 or so.Expect to pay around ~4K per unit. If you’re planning on buying a new unit you might talk with Ron first, as he knows some local installers. I used New England Cooling Towers, Inc., which was the company that serviced the common condo units at the time. They did an adequate job of installation, but were not capable of resolving an electrical issue that occurred after a year after. 3 Brothers Mechanical also incorrectly diagnosed the issue. A-1 Maintenance, however, quickly and correctly diagnosed and fixed the issue. If you think you have a compressor issue, calling A-1 (978-937-8250) might be the place to start, as they have the capability to remove a unit and do some diagnosis in their shop (Dracut).
