Trick-or-Treating on the 31st

The input I’ve gotten is running just slightly in favor of keeping Trick-or-Treating at Canal Place on Thursday the 31st despite Lowell changing the city-wide date to Nov. 1st. This isn’t a board-sponsored activity, nor is anyone in officially in charge of it, so there’s no one to make a formal decision. But I would encourage residents to stick with the original date and celebrate Halloween on Halloween, as planned, from 6-7:30. I know some people have set up their schedules that way and can’t change them.

That said, if anyone shows up at my door on Friday evening during those hours, they’re welcome to candy too!

  1. Thank you! That sounds good but if I have candy left over for Friday I’m hoping people will come by and take it away from me! haha!

  2. I think everyone who isn’t signed up for bulletin board notifications is going to assume that we are going by the city’s hours since we have in the past. For that reason, I think we will have low turnout tonight and confusion and I would opt for moving to the city hours.

    1. The flip side of moving this event because the kids will have heard that the city moved trick or treating is that older residents handing out candy may NOT have heard of the change because they’re not on the city’s notification list. So they’ll be sitting home wondering why no one’s knocking on their door after just getting a flyer saying that there’d be trick-or-treating.

The only other time I recall this happening we followed the city’s lead and had a lower turnout because people had other plans. It’s kind of a no-win situation, and comments on the previous post seemed to be breaking in favor of not moving it. Signs have gone up around the building about the date. Whoever does the flyers next year should try to specify whether we follow the city or not right in the instructions.

      1. Agree wholeheartedly – when it comes to October weather, anything can happen so we should specify at the outset if ours is “rain or shine” or if our schedule is pinned to the city’s schedule. Also when I wrote my comment, I hadn’t yet seen the new signs in the lobby / elevator specifying that we were sticking to our schedule, so that helps alleviate my concerns. Whatever we do now has potential downsides. I will be at my door with candy and hope that we get a good number of kids!
