Oops…the heat is not fixed (please be patient!)

Apparently the heat is still having problems. The broken pipe caused enough air to get into the system that it now has to be bled before it will work right. There are signs in the lobby requesting that residents not run their heat so that the lines can be bled (and so you won’t be wasting money on electricity for nothing).  I will pass on news as I hear it.

At least it didn’t happen yesterday!

  1. If our heat is on during the day while we are at work and no one is home to shut it off, are we going to have problems with our in-unit heat pumps?

    1. I’m not absolutely sure, but I believe that they can bleed the lines while some pumps are running; it’s just much more efficient when as many as possible are off. As for a unit’s heat pumps having problems because they weren’t turned off, I wouldn’t expect them to but I’m not the best person to ask so I’ll pass the question along.

  2. Do we think that this issue is just a rare incident, or something that could have been prevented with a thorough pre-winter inspection of our utilities? (Is this something that is done or should be done?)

    1. This incident appears to have been a fluke. The pipe which broke originally connected to a heating unit behind the pigeon holes in the mail room that had long since been removed. Why it chose to break this year and not many, many years ago (or not at all), is a mystery.
