Comcast Internet

Has everyone’s network been crashing or is it just us and we should look at new modems? Ours has crashed at least twice today and it’s been a regular thing for the past week or two. It’s a real problem for residents who work online!

  1. On the first floor I had a 1 second blackout today that knocked out everything but the TV came back on within 10 minutes.. other than that everything seems to be wonderful!

  2. I have been having problems for the last three weeks. Oddly there was a service interruption (I think due to construction) about a month ago. I wonder if they are connected. It keeps coming back up, but it is problematic for me as well since I work from a home office.

  3. Some time between 4 and 5 pm I also had an interrupt like John’s. Mine seemed to be related to a power surge, my lights flickered just as it started. I have had several interrupts since they had the planned outage on that weekend morning.

  4. Over the past month I’ve had several interruptions. Sometimes it was back up in several minutes at other times it was down for over an hour.

I’ve also had issues with the 5 Ghz wireless connection and so I switched to the 2.5 Ghz connection. I haven’t had an issue since.

  5. I’m on the second floor. Noticed intermittent internet disconnections over the past few weeks. Annoying. Also work from home.

  6. Initially when moving in I had lots of problems with staying connected using WIFI. The modem would drop to a weaker output signal due to local same frequency interference. So maybe someone near by installed a new modem or changed the settings on the same channel your WIFI.

If you are using WIFI and could instead use the Ethernet port that would tell you if it is the cable connection or WIFI interference. If need be I could dig up the free tool that analyzed all local wifi frequencies and the use level and signals strengths

    1. Nah, this isn’t router-level interference – the building’s internet, stable as a rock for years, has become unreliable since the garage construction started. I get 5-15 minute disconnects a few times a week now, and occasionally longer ones.

I’m only posting this now because it literally just happened.

It isn’t a problem so much on nights and weekends but it is hugely annoying when I’m working from home.

  7. My Comcast was out from 3am to 2pm last week. Met the service people in the parking lot of Canal Place 3, and they said an underground cable had broken. They repaired it. I’m wondering if it was related to the digging / construction next to Canal Place 3

  8. Absolutely. I’ve been having intermittent drops and general slowness over the past month and, as others have said, generally coinciding with the work done around the area. I’ve reconfigured the router, changed settings, and as you said Jack, all on a formerly stable connection. The past week or two seems to have seen some level of improvement, but there are definitely days when I’m still seeing significant delays for a period of 15-30 minutes at a time, devices are showing as having no connection, and a power cycle of the router does nothing.

Work in IT and happy to take a look over anyone’s setup if a second set of eyes would be helpful.

  9. Hi folks. On work call today 11/1 at 9:40am and appears Comcast is down again. Anyone else seeing this in your units? Assuming a delay in response here since others may not have a cellular fall back.

    1. Ours went down a little after 9:00 and was still down when I left the house around 10:00. Hubby says it came back up shortly after that. I have to agree with other people that this is most likely tied into all that work going on out back near Canal Place 3.
