Apparently when the heat was turned on yesterday there was a problem with one of the pumps. It has now been fixed and the heat is working. I just tried mine out and it took about five minutes to really get going but then it was blowing out nice toasty-warm air.
Heat Is On!
For those of you thinking it’s getting a bit nippy, I just got a message that the heat is on. I’m testing mine out right now and still not getting much heat but I assume that’s just because the boilers haven’t yet gotten the system up to temperature.
Any future problems with your heat should be reported to Cathy Deloge (royal.cathy@comcast.net).
Trick or Treating Postponed
Trick or Treating in Lowell has been postponed to Friday, November 3rd because of the damage wrought by last night’s storm. While Canal Place wasn’t affected directly, it’s been decided to delay our in house trick-or-treating to Friday as well. Trick-or-treating in our building will be held this Friday from 6-8pm.
Trick or Treating
The pumpkin notices about Trick or Treating in the building (always a fun event) have appeared on doorsteps but without times on them. In the past it’s always been from 6:00 to 8:00. Can anyone confirm that time frame?
The Annual Monster Stroll happens today downtown. Please watch for the little monsters if you go driving anywhere.
And if you haven’t signed up for the Association Potluck next Saturday, you can do so here. This is a wonderful (and rare) chance to get to meet your neighbors.
Board Meeting Tonight
There a board meeting tonight (Wednesday the 25th) in the lobby office at 7:00. Residents welcome.

Kitty Supplies Available
From a resident:
I’ve got a free CleverCat top-entry litterbox and a pretty full big bag of Royal Canin Urinary S/O feline formula (helps reduce urinary tract infections in kitties).
No worries–the cats are fine! They just prefer side entry boxes and their diet switched.

Proposed Garage Price Increases
From Georgi:
There were several people at the Finance Subcommittee meeting Tuesday evening who spoke against the proposed parking garage price increases.
The proposal has been sent back to committee for a re-evaluation of the increases.
Victory! For now.
Parking Rate Increase—Important meeting 10/3!
From Georgi: We are going to need as many people as possible to attend the October 3rd City Finance Subcommittee meeting being held at 5:30 at the City Council’s Chamber.
They will be discussing a change to city garage monthly fees which will GREATLY affect our monthly condo fees. (See information below)
Please make every effort to attend this meeting.
Further info (from CP3, lightly edited by me for CP1)
Parking director Nick Navin was the guest speaker at LDNA meeting last week to discuss the proposed parking rate increases the city is planning to implement January 2018. This was referred to finance sub-committee which is scheduled for Tuesday, October 3rd, 5:30 at City Council Chamber.
The entire proposal can be found here; page 6 and 7 have the rates and discounts listed. The fee for our current resident pass (24/7 access) is $48.00 per month. The new 24/7 access pass will be $100 (residents will get 25% discount the 1st year bringing it to $75.00 per month) for 2018 and 10–15% increase every year for the next 4 years.
After that it’s recommended that the price increase annually based on the consumer price index or “based on the needs of the department at that time.”
These changes will triple the cost of the parking fees that Canal Place pays out on behalf of the residents over the next four years—in addition to the increase those of us paying for additional spaces will see.
