Garage Work and Alarm Testing

For anyone who parks in the garage under the building who hasn’t seen the signs posted in the garage (or for anyone who’s just curious): There is a new drain being installed at the garage entrance next week. There will be NO PARKING in the Canal Place garage from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM from Monday the 29th through Friday October 3rd. There will be absolutely NO entering or exiting the garage during working hours. If the weather is uncooperative, the work may extend into the following week.

Also, a reminder: Fire Alarm testing is taking place on Monday, September 29th between the hours of 8:30 and 4:30 PM. The fire alarm company needs access to EVERY UNIT to test the equipment in each unit.  The technician will be accompanied by Ron. If you haven’t yet returned the permission slip that was mailed to each owner 3 weeks ago, please slip it through the office door mail slot ASAP!

Office Hours

Just heard back from Management.  Although the office was closed this past Saturday because of the long weekend, it will be open for business during the regular hours going forward: Tuesday and Thursday 6:00 – 8:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 – 11:00 AM.

Link Page

There are a few new links worth mentioning on the Link Page, courtesy of the Lowell Downtown Neighborhood Association’s secretary who happens to be a resident of Canal Place III. One particularly useful one is See-Click-Fix, an easy way to report things like potholes or broken street lights; you can also use See-Click-Fix to see what other people have already reported. Plus our Link Page now has links to neighborhood maps and the LDNA itself.

In addition, the links from the previous Bulletin Board post have been added and the delivery map has been updated to reflect the recent traffic changes.

Office Staffing, Voting Info, and Development Plans

For those who haven’t noticed the note on the office door, we are temporarily without an office person. I am trying to get more information from the management about how to get packages other than playing “Catch-the-Mailman,” not to mention how to handle other office business. I’ll keep you posted.

Tuesday, September 9th is the primary election. Our voting location is at Lowell Telecommunications Center (LTC) at 246 Market Street. Poll hours are 7 am to 8 pm. Please bring identification.

There is a hearing regarding the plans for the back section of the Canal Place I building (246.1 Market St) this Thursday, September 4th, at 6:30 PM at the City Council Chambers at City Hall.

The intention of the developer is to stabilize the old power plant across the way so we can stop worrying about falling bricks but to leave it otherwise unaltered for now. His immediate plan is to develop the Boott Mill section attached to the back of our building into housing. The ground floor will be parking with five floors of residential units above (13 units total).

Meeting details are here: http://www.lowellma.gov/dpd/devservices/planning/Documents/2014-09-04%20Agenda.pdf

Request for info: Tankless Water Heater

A resident has the following question:
“I will be replacing my water heater soon; currently I have a regular Tank water heater.  I am interested in knowing if anyone in the building has installed a Tankless Water Heater – Point of Use.  If they have, what is their experience with the Tankless and would they recommend installing one, or not?  Also, possibly, who did the installation.”
Please feel free to used the comment feature to offer any input.  Thanks!

Downtown two-way traffic

For anyone who hasn’t heard, and for those who have heard and want more details, the following streets will become two-way around dawn on August 16th (they’re painting double yellow lines at 4am): Market, Merrimack, Central, and Shattuck (no, they’re not painting a line on the cobblestones, they’re using barrels and cones for the moment).

Palmer, Middle, and Prescott will remain one way.

The idea of all this is to make access to downtown businesses easier and to give more of a small town feel.  Personally, I thought our claim to fame was being the first industrial city in the US, but I suppose there’s something to be said for encouraging commerce.
