Air Conditioning Work

For those who haven’t seen the notices on the bulletin boards around the building, there will be work being done on the air conditioning this Tuesday and Wednesday.  The management is asking that you turn your AC off between the hours of 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM on those days.

Needless to say, there will be people who don’t. My understanding is that the work can be done more efficiently if as many people as possible remember to shut down their heat pumps.  It also saves you from paying for electricity to run your pumps when the AC is offline and you’re not really cooling your unit.

Smoking Policy Survey

The board is looking for your feedback on recent, and possible future, smoking policy changes at Canal Place One.  They are asking that residents and owners take a look at info gleaned from an earlier survey done by our attorney partners, Perkins & Anctil, and then take a 3 question survey to provide input and feedback.

Here’s the P&A survey summary on local Smoking Policies at Community Associations: P&A Smoking Survey Summary

And here’s the Canal Place survey for you to complete:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3W7MBCV

This is not an official vote on the Smoking Policy.  The board is simply looking to gain a broader perspective on both possible policy changes and current legislative trends to limit/ban smoking.

The survey will be open until July 31st and the results will be discussed at the monthly board meeting on August 3rd.

Residents Links, Subscribing & Fireworks

There is a new section of the website—sort of a filing cabinet specifically for owners and residents—that can be accessed through the very first link on the link page or by going to: https://www.canalplaceone.com/filecabinet.html.  It provides easy access to all those official documents that you might not otherwise have handy.

It has come to my attention that if you’re using a tablet or other smart device to get to the website, it may not be obvious how to subscribe to the Bulletin Board.  The links that normally appear on the Bulletin Board’s black bar on a computer—and that includes the subscription link—may instead be on a drop down menu that can be reached via the little icon at the right end of the black bar.

And if you’re looking for the where and when on tonight’s fireworks in Lowell, it can be found here.

Hope everyone is having a happy and safe holiday weekend!

Water Savings & Masonry Reports

Please remember to return your completed form to the office by Friday for an inspection of your plumbing fixtures on the 7th. This really benefits all of us and I, for one, am eager to see how much my family can do to cut water waste in our own unit (and keep down condo fees). If you never got the announcement/form or have misplaced it, it is available at https://www.canalplaceone.com/watersavings7-9-15.pdf

The latest masonry report is also now available: https://www.canalplaceone.com/masonryreport6-19-15.pdf

Signs, Parking, and Fountain info

I have a couple of things to go up on the website in the next few days but right now I’m going to focus on an item from the board and the latest fountain info.  Here’s the board item:

Help on Missing Sign and Parking
The “No smoking and No dogs” sign on the first floor elevator entrance was removed over the past week.  Does anyone have information on the person responsible or a timeframe when this occurred?  We can review the camera footage and try to identify the person responsible if we can narrow down a time period.  At this time we know it was reported missing on Saturday morning at 6:45 am.  If you have further details please report them to Cathy ( royal.cathy@comcast.net ) at Royal Management.

Please mind the parking lines on the surface lot.  We had a couple cars over the weekend that parked slightly over a painted line which prevented anyone from parking in the spot next to them.  The spaces are very small to begin with, so let’s all stay within the lines to ensure our neighbors have space to park safely.

And here’s the latest fountain update (basically, we’re just waiting on the new metal surround).

Lowell Summer Kick-Off party & More

If you’re sitting inside on the glorious spring day, you might consider taking a walk across the street to Palmer and enjoying the street fair that’s going on this afternoon: http://howlmag.com/events-lowell-ma/lowell-summer-kick-off-party-2/

There’s also a whole list of other stuff to do at http://howlmag.com/events-in-lowell-ma/today/

And Howl Magazine seems to have totally missed the Greek Festival: http://www.greekboston.com/event/festival-lowell-ma/

Security Reminder

This information that Canal Place III sent out  just got passed on to me (thank you Pete) so I’m passing it along to you.

Dear Owners,
Recently, there has been a series of targeted “fishing” attempts and break-ins into residential properties around the Lowell area. These burglaries have occurred by a suspected 20-30 year man with dark hair traveling to area communities and evaluating targets based on ringing buzzers and waiting for unwary residents to allow him access.
Please remember that as a general safety protection both for yourself and your fellow residents to only provide access to the property if you directly know the visitor, or a contractor that you specifically hired.
If you see any suspicious activities around the area, please call the Lowell Police at (978) 937-3200 or by calling 911.

Saving the Association Garage Fees

I know I’ve mentioned before that those over 62 who rent a space in the city garage should be getting a discount, but I only recently asked Cathy about whether that applies to people whose fees are paid by Canal Place.  The answer is yes.

There are a number of eligible people that Cathy and the garage management know about and whose spaces are already discounted.  But if you’re eligible and your space is included in your fees and you think you might have been overlooked, please let Cathy know your birthday (royal.cathy@comcast.net).  It would also be helpful if you could stop in at the Leo Roy Garage office and ask them to change the rate for your garage pass card.

If you’d like to know more about the discount, the info is here: https://www.canalplaceone.com/garageparkingregs.pdf   Thanks, all!

Possibility of Weekend Repointing?

Just a heads up.  We noticed some noises starting right at 8:00 and are wondering if the masons may be trying to make up for the two days lost to rain this week.  So please be aware that you might want to be careful about leaving windows or shades open this weekend.

Of course, the noise and trucks may be something else entirely, but it seemed worth mentioning.
