Marathon, Stair Gates, and Coffee!

Jim Wilde is hosting a coffee for our City Councilor Wayne Jenness this Sunday, Oct. 15 at Mack Plaza, corner of Market and Dutton from 10-11:30 am. Wayne is one of our residents. This is an opportunity to hear from Wayne about his accomplishments and  priorities and to ask any questions, or bring up issues with him. There will be coffee, cider and goodies.

For more general information about the upcoming November 7th election, check out Lowell Votes or lowellma.gov.

The Bay State Marathon is also this Sunday, the 15th, starting at 8:00am, so expect traffic delays, especially along either side of the river. The Lowell Sun predicts traffic on those roads will be “horrendous.” (All the more reason to just stroll over to Mack Plaza rather than driving anywhere!)

We have new gates in the stairwells at ground level. These gates are not to prevent access to the basement and are easily pulled open. The idea is simply that in a panic situation, possibly with limited visibility, a person doesn’t accidentally keep racing down the staircase past the first floor exit and find themselves trapped in the basement. This type of gate is a common safety feature in newer buildings.

Annual Owners Meeting & Related Info

A reminder that the Annual Owners Meeting is Wednesday at 6:00pm at St. Anne’s Edson Hall. The hall is wheelchair accessible and can be entered from Kirk Street or by taking the path between the church and the Rectory. This is a private meeting for owners only.

For a Trustee Candidate form (2 seats are up for election this year), a Voting Proxy for those who cannot attend, or a copy of the recent loan FAQ letter from the Board, just click the links. These forms can also be found by navigating to the Condo Docs from the Useful Links page, or in the recent email to owners from management about the meeting.

Plumbing Question

I’ve never heard of anything like this question from a first floor owner; it sounds like something bizarre is going on with their incoming plumbing. If anyone has any advice for them, please put it in the comments

I’ve been having this issue since moving in mid-winter, and I’m trying to find the root cause:

When I turn on the shower, the water flows clear and hot. However, when I try to use the bathtub spout, the water turns brown and runs cold. I replaced my water heater, and the bathtub is the only faucet with this issue.

Anyone know what the cause might be, or has anyone had a similar issue?

Appliance Repair Companies?

Does anyone have any experience with local appliance repair companies? Our dryer has started squeaking and thumping on occasion and needs a once-over (and probably some new bearings). Sharing any companies you’ve used successfully in the comments would be much appreciated!

246.1 Market Street & Events Downtown

There’s a Multicultural Day event with food and music going on from 11am to 7pm at City Hall Plaza today, which sounds like a fun and free way to spend what’s shaping up to be a lovely summer day.

The Angkor Dance Troupe will have a free performance at Boarding House Park on Sunday, the 27th at 6pm.

The Lowell Downtown Neighborhood Association will be meeting Monday, the 28th, at 7:00pm at LTC, 246 Market Street.

On a totally different note, in the process of looking up some other info, I came across the real estate listing for the back section of the building and thought I’d share.

For those unaware, it’s apparently fairly normal for a piece of commercial property to switch hands repeatedly as a project inches closer to completion. That’s certainly been the case with this slow-moving rehab over the past decade.

The property lines are particularly interesting. It’s a very weird lot, and the boundaries in the two images in their brochure don’t match up. I can’t quite figure out if the difference is due solely to some really sloppy imaging, or because the first image excludes the areas of the property where we have a right-of-way (like our back stairs or the parking space in front of our loading dock), while the second image shows their full lot, including all the areas we have a legal right to use.

Important Owner Email

If you’re a Canal Place unit owner and did not get an email late today from management with important financial information, please check your junk/spam folder. Spam filters can be notoriously erratic, especially with group emails, and this information is particularly important.
